Happiest of birthdays to my wonderful wife! Super lucky that I dropped some rolls off at the local film shop this week and got back one of the most incredible photos of her I have taken. Just in time to post it for her birthday. She’s an incredible human, mother, and partner.

ROF by Sveinbjörg Þórhallsdóttir

Halla Þórðardóttir danced this piece beautifully the other night. I was in the audience, photographing from a stationary seat as were the constraints of the gig, working as the Reykjavík Dance Festival’s photographer for the 5th year in a row. Sometimes I am able to watch run-throughs and move around and other times, I have to get the right seat so that I can make the most of the show while not interrupting the enjoyment of others. Fall Jaguar

I walk past this Jaguar with my daughter almost everyday on the way to school; taking note all the while that at some point the details are all going to fall into place to capture it in the perfect moment. After about 5-7 days noting the little details that would really turn this into a special moment, it finally fell into place. The weather became colder giving the morning a blue hue, the leaves changing and dropping, the car would fog up overnight and create an organic feel, the ground perpetually having this post-overnight rain shine, and the last piece of the puzzle, the light of the ever later morning sun being exactly right for the moment you see captured above.

Still Life of a Clear Table

I have been spending a lot of time being inspired by painting lately. Still life is one of the only things that can be replicated across many mediums of art without imbibing onto it too much of the medium. Hyper-realism painters can create paintings that look like a photograph and photographers can create some photos that look like paintings. I was attempting to create this photograph in the space just in between realism and a painting. I left the highlights blown out and used deeper shadows to create a more painterly effect.
